Geography of Crete

Crete is the biggest island in Greece and the second biggest of the East Mediterranean. It divides Aegean and Libyan Sea, serving as the boundary between Europe and Africa. Crete lies approximately 160km south of the Greek mainland and covers an area of 8,336 km?. The island is 160 km long and has a population of 650,000 people. The coast is bluffy, that gives Crete over 1,000 km of shoreline, consisting of both sandy beaches and rocky shores. The high mountains are the main characteristic of the Cretan landscape. There are also a few low lying plains as well as a variety of high plateaus. This quaint island is also famous for the diversity of its flora and fauna: cypress and date groves and cedar forests.
Crete is an island with clear sea-waters, wonderful beaches, bright sun and cool starlit nights.
